Valentine’s Day Sugar Cookies

In case you didn’t get enough of our sugar cookies at Christmas, we’re back at it again.  This time, we made Valentine’s Day Sugar Cookies.  However, instead of our royal icing, we take a turn for a hard glaze, perfect for writing on with edible markers!  Watch the cookie party in action:

You can definitely flavor the glaze with extract.  We especially liked the addition of lemon.  One thing to note, though, when we added almond, it made the glaze a bit darker.  So, just all depends on what you’re going for in the final effect.

The Wilton edible markers come in various tip shapes and colors.  I especially liked the softer brush-like candy decorators.  But, the Food Writers are perfect for more precise outline work.

As far as designs go, you can really go hog-wild.  We especially enjoyed using stencils to create flowers.  We also enjoyed some inspiration from various Zentangle and Zen Doodling books.

Best part is, though, these are darn tasty cookies that we think you’ll really enjoy eating.
