In case you didn’t get enough of our sugar cookies at Christmas, we’re back at it again. Â This time, we made Valentine’s Day Sugar Cookies. Â However, instead of our royal icing, we take a turn for a hard glaze, perfect for writing on with edible markers! Â Watch the cookie party in action:
Valentine’s Day Sugar Cookies
You can definitely flavor the glaze with extract. Â We especially liked the addition of lemon. Â One thing to note, though, when we added almond, it made the glaze a bit darker. Â So, just all depends on what you’re going for in the final effect.
The Wilton edible markers come in various tip shapes and colors. Â I especially liked the softer brush-like candy decorators. Â But, the Food Writers are perfect for more precise outline work.
As far as designs go, you can really go hog-wild. Â We especially enjoyed using stencils to create flowers. Â We also enjoyed some inspiration from various Zentangle and Zen Doodling books.
Best part is, though, these are darn tasty cookies that we think you’ll really enjoy eating.

Joanie,
Did I miss it, or by chance do you have more of a piping glaze/icing recipe that you recommend? I made tester cookies last weekend and I don’t want to draw on my cookies, I would rather pipe different designs/colors on them, but the icing recipe I tried was too runny and didn’t set properly. The good news is, the cookies taste AMAZING! <3

Yep! If you’re looking for an icing that holds its form when you pipe it, use this recipe: https://joaniesimon.com/decorating-christmas-cookies/. Sounds like some tasty fun over there!!!

Thanks so much for the recipes. I tried to make pretty cookies at Christmas, and let’s just say, they tasted great and looked pitiful. I’m hoping this will give me a better result. It was so sweet of you to share! Happy Valentine’s Day!
