Chocolate Malt

Another recipe from my first ever cooking class was chocolate malt shakes. I decided to go with strawberry for the class, but originally devised the recipe with chocolate. The night of the class, come to find out one of the attendees was allergic to strawberries, so we went vanilla for him at the last minute. It all reminded me of a quote my Mom told me when I was little.

“Blessed are the flexible for they shall not be bent out of shape.”

Amen, Mom!

All that to say, this recipe is super flexible.  Got a flavor you like? Go with it.  But, for the purposes of this exercise, I took photos making a chocolate malt, and chocolate is my favorite.  Of course, the secret in this recipe is that perfect balance of thickness.  Sometimes a chocolate malt can be too thick and can’t be enjoyed through a straw. Sometimes, they’re all milk and don’t have enough body.  I experimented and landed on this winner of a recipe.

So, here we go.

Bring on the chocolate malt!

Put 2 scoops chocolate ice cream, 1/2 cup 2% milk and 1/4 cup malted milk powder (I like Carnation) in a blender.

Chocolate Ice Cream

Turn on the blender and BLEND!

Chocolate Malt

Pour your chocolate malt into a fancy glass.

The Classic Chocolate Malt

Top with whipped cream, sprinkles, chocolate sauce, a cherry, Whoppers…go nuts!
