Slow Cooker Glazed Ham

Mr. Simon LOOOOOOOVES ham.  When I told him I was working on a holiday slow cooker glazed ham recipe, he flipped.  But, bear in mind, that means the bar is set HIGH.  He has high expectations for a super juicy, nicely seasoned, glazed ham.  This recipe?  Fully approved with the phrase, “we should have been doing ham like this all along!”  Yes, my dear, and now we will.

One huge thing to keep in mind before attempting a slow cooker ham, though, is to make sure the ham you buy will fit in the size of slow cooker you have.  I have a 6.5 Quart All Clad slow cooker, which accommodates a nine pound ham just fine.  But, my Mom’s vintage Crock Pot only holds a five pounder.  So, just bear in mind that size matters here.

But, once you’ve solved the size problem, the rest is easy.  It’s only FIVE ingredients.  The ham goes in the cooker with a cup of unsweetened pineapple juice, for that signature festive holiday pairing.  Then, combine the remaining ingredients:  pineapple preserves, country style dijon, Worcestershire and brown sugar and stir until it’s all mixed up.  Then pour it all over the ham, cover it, and set it on low for five hours.  Then let your house start to smell amazing.

After five hours, remove the ham and place it on a cutting board, ready to be sliced up.  Then, transfer all of the juices left in the slow cooker to a pot on the stovetop and heat it over medium high heat until it’s simmering.  Let that simmer do it’s thing and reduce the juices to a nice syrupy glaze.  Then, pour the glaze over top of the ham, slice and serve.

And that’s it!  5 ingredients, 1 ham and a table full of happy people.
